History of Cloture Motions brought to a vote in the US Senate

This chart is based on data from Senate.gov, but cloture motions withdrawn before voting or agreed to by unanimous consent are not counted. The chart is based on an earlier visualization prepared by www.ourfuture.org; it essentially brings that chart up to date. The chart automatically updates every 20 minutes if there have been any new postings at senate.gov.
Projection in the final term is calculated by multiplying the number of cloture motions brought to a vote so far in the session by the number of days into the session, divided by the average session length (~2 years).

These emblems attempt to count the instances of obstruction in the current session on the US Senate. Each tick represents an instance where some members of the Senate insisted that a measure be subjected to a special 60-vote threshold before it could be allowed to test the consitutionally mandated 51-vote threshold. The data source is Senate.gov and is updated every 20 minutes.
